Our generation has seen the evolution of computers. We began with the bulky personal computer, then sleek laptops were introduced, and now we continue to see newly developed and upgraded tablets and smart phones, which can be just as useful as a computer. Not surprisingly, personal computers sales are slumping. But if you think that the personal computer will soon be non-existent, you have another thing coming.
Personal computer sales in the United States, Canada, and Europe are indeed slumping, but surprisingly, China has become the world's number one PC market, along with India and Turkey.
I personally haven't used a PC in years, and with the constant innovation and improvement of laptops and tablets such as the iPad, it makes me wonder why countries like China, who is advanced in technology, would be using a PC more and more.
I think laptops have so much more to offer versus a personal computer. Laptops are convenient and portable and are constantly being improved with things like webcams and lighted keyboards. What do you guys think? Would you go back to using a personal computer?
I believe that you are referring to a desktop computer as a personal computer. The desktop is definitely slumping, but that does not mean that it does not have a place. In the past desktops existed because mobile technology was not advanced enough and they had better performance. As time elapsed, mobile technology caught up with the desktop. Batteries are now lasting all day and processors are blazing fast. Desktops are long from gone however. They are great for servers that need multiple terminals. Also, for those that need extreme computing for digital video editing etc. they are still superior.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Simon, the desktop computer for video editing is far superior than a laptop is. I have mentioned in previous posts that I am a Apple guy. I haven't owned a personal computer for several years. I have both an iPad and Macbook Pro that I use to roam the internet, edit smaller videos on and to do homework.
ReplyDeleteIf I was to do a lot of video editing, I would stick with a desktop computer. If I want to sit in front of the tv and roam the internet, a laptop is the way to go. I am surprised that China is buying so many PC's. They always seem to be ahead on technology... I wonder if they know something we don't.
I have become extremely spoiled from the laptop revolution. In fact, I haven't had a PC since I was 15 living at my parents' hoome. I can't say I would purchase one except perhaps if I had children I might so that it stays in a common area of the household. Other than that, I cannot say I would ever consider purchasing one.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if personal computers are outdated. They were useful before because the graphics cards and memory space were much more significant than that of laptops. However, the technology in laptops has increased over the years. The mobility of laptops and tablets also plays a factor. They can be used in a variety of ways and in a variety of locations. I think that it just depends on the person. If they don’t plan on using a computer outside their home, they may not need a laptop. Great post!
